Bee Gees Albums: Horizontal.

Horizontal: This is the 2nd international album by these brilliant singers/songwriters-- the brother's Gibb. And the 4th album overall.  What makes this album very unique-- not that every album is unique in its own right. However, it marks two things that make it stand out:  first, of all,  is that there is a slightly; if not, completely darker sound throughout each track-- even the ballads. Now this is something really significant.  second,  and possibly this is something more personal to one member-- than the others, but Robin would take a more sombre-- more introspective take on life for some years to come due to a horrific Train crash that he was involved in. This can be seen in such songs as really and sincerely (this album) and other songs like I got to get a message to you and saved by the bell (future tracks)

Having already considered the hit song and lead single Massachusetts which is there answer to the flower-power folly of the late sixties.  But the song is a wonderful testimony to the song-writing abilities.

Other songs that stand out are:

(1) World

(2) And the sun will shine

(3) really and sincerely.

(4) Day time girl

Each of these tracks show case a different musical direction that the brother would later explore. More noted is the fact that the second and third are Robin Gibb standards. And the lyrics a rather intriguing in the first; but more thoughtful in the second. I mean just think about these lyrics:

"My mind is open now, I'm on the other side. Though you remember my name. And if you go away I'll get it off somehow. I'll leave it all in the air. No, no."
