bee gees albums

Album: Mr Natural  (1974) This album happens to be one of my favourites from the pre "disco" segment of the bee gees career. and i put the word disco in air quotes because what we have from the late 70's can never be classified as such for it is blue eyed soul and R&B. but more to the point, there is no such thing as disco music as it has blends of different genres in it.  but now enough of this-- let us now turn our attention to the key album. Mr natural,  has often been put into the not so important albums  category by the brothers, often being dismissed. and that is their right. but as a fan of their music (of over 30 years) i hold a very different opinion of this album. Let me make it clear: this album sits right at a crossroads of sorts-- it brings the prior style to a conclusion; and opens the brothers up to a new sound (one that they had always loved but never dared to explore until the coaxing of Arif Mardin) which would come more central over the n...

Life in a tin can/ a kick in the head sessions: Now granted the above picture is not exactly the one from either of these albums; nonetheless, it serves the purpose of this post. The goal that I have in mind is to consider the songs which would form the basis of these two albums from 1972-1973.   let us take note of the tracks in question-- album no 1 (their 12th) life in a tin can which had the following songs: A 1   SAW A NEW MORNING A 2   I DON’T WANNA BE THE ONE A 3   SOUTH DAKOTA MORNING A 4   LIVING IN CHICAGO B 1   WHILE I PLAY B 2   MY LIFE HAS BEEN A SONG B 3   COME HOME JOHNNY BRIDE B 4   METHOD TO MY MADNESS Album no. 2 (their 13th) a kick in the head which had the following songs:  A 1   ELISA A 2   WOULDN’T I BE SOMEONE A 3   A LONELY VIOLIN A 4   LOSERS AND LOVERS A 5   HOME AGAIN RIVERS B 1   HARRY’S GATE B 2   ROCKY L A B 3   CASTLES IN THE AIR B 4   WHERE IS YOUR SISTER B...

Bee Gees singles (1972)

The songs that were released from January-November 1972. 10 months prior to the release of their 11th album "too whom it may concern "which the above picture comes from, but I have adopted it here for the singles which surround it.  These songs, both showcase, the brothers different styles of writing and singing to their fullest capacity.  Let us now note all the singles released which coincide with the full album: * My world/ On time  (first: Robin and Barry lead/ second: Maurice lead) * Run to me/ Road to Alaska (first: Barry and Robin/ second: Robin Lead)  * Alive/ Paper Mache..  (first: Barry/second: all three brothers with parts by Barry and Robin)  Despite the fact that at the time these song were not viewed by the public as worth the time of day-- which in all actual reality they were very powerful. they now can be looked at as being good standards for the brother growing musical direction.

Bee gees Albums: Too whom it may concern.

Image
To whom it may concern: This is the 11th studio album by the these talented brother; and it is as the title suggests  a plea for someone to listen and give them a chance-- and this was down to the fact that they had just hit a bit of a rough patch which would last till 1975 and cover a number of albums (which; of course, each one was a top notch album-- even if i may say so)  which show case a wide range of musical genres.   This, album,  however is one which gives us 13 tracks which are diverse from rock-stands such as lost the rod and bad, bad dreams to ballads such as run to me and never been alone. And then there are other interesting stand out tracks like paper-Mache and sweet songs of summer which very experimental in nature and expression.  Let me just put forth one track which deserves a mention:  Road to Alaska

Bee Gees Album: Trafalgar

Image
Trafalgar: This marks the 10th Bee Gees Album-- and although some put the true point of their union in terms of a concrete spiritual bond between the brothers that had fractured further down the line;  but I truly see this album as the time of the bonds being healed. And this can be seen in each and every song on the album; but particularly songs such as Lion in Winter; Don't wanna live inside myself and Somebody stop the music (each displaying one brother on lead vocals; yet still each shows the strength of their individual writing style). It can be seen in not just the songs-- but likewise in the depths of  the bond as it is expressed in the different songs.  There are several interesting songs to be mentioned here: (1) Remembering (2) Greatest man in the world (3) Trafalgar This album also has a very important message not just in the songs as we have noted; it still can be seen in the pictures. And the second one (or the inside layer) shows a dying or wounded Barry bec...

Bee Gees: singles (1970-71)

Image
The year 1970-71  was a good year for the brothers in terms of output of singles: Singles:  Lonely Days (1970)  Singles: Man for all seasons (1970)  This gives us a glimpse into the brother' songwriting abilities just after the reunion-- while still getting back to the point where it could be shown as bonding and strengthening.  It is still only two songs from the forthcoming album (two years on).  In this offering we see that the gel that bonded them as songwriters was still there.  These songs,  we are told were written on the same day as another one which we will turn to in a moment (how can you mend a broken heart)-- but I think that the titles show a progression not just in songwriting but story telling regarding their own biographical account.  Single: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (1971)  Single: country women now (1971) These two songs showcase the versatility of the brothers songwriting as we have one song which owes more to a...

Bee gees Album: Two Years On

Image
Two Years On:                        This is the Bee Gees 9th studio album (7th international) released in November 1970. And it marked the reunion of the brothers as a band; yet, to some degree it marked the end of the first outing of them doing solo efforts. And this can be witnessed in the fact that there are more tracks which seem to be best understood as a conclusion to that period of time in the brother' careers. Just think of the title track which, to me, seems to be something of balance between both the solo and band work. I ask you to forgive me that I am not considering to show stand out tracks from the album, though all tracks on the album are really good songs. I do not wish to point out favourites at this time. The album as a whole is not a favourite.
